Privacy Policy
Emberwise is a paid iOS app that teaches calm, practical survival skills in short missions. You can choose a monthly or a yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. It is made by an independent developer ("the developer of Emberwise", "we"). This policy covers the Emberwise app and the Emberwise website.
The short version
- The Emberwise app has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. It never asks for your name, email address, age or location.
- All lessons are bundled inside the app and work offline. Your progress is stored only on your device.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. To unlock the app and restore your purchases, our purchase service RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase records (see "Purchases" below).
- The only personal data we ever receive is an email address that you type into the waitlist form on our website, and only if you choose to.
- The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, no third-party scripts and no third-party fonts.
The Emberwise app
No account, no tracking. The app has no account and never asks for your name, email address, age or location. It contains no advertising software and no analytics software, and it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. The only outside service it uses is the purchase service described under "Purchases" below.
Works offline. All missions, field cards and illustrations are included in the app and work offline. The app needs an internet connection only to buy, to restore a purchase and to refresh your access status. It does not download content.
Your progress stays on your device. Your answers, completed missions, streak ("days kept"), Readiness rings and settings are saved in the app's storage on your device and are never sent to us. If you back up your device with iCloud or a computer, Apple may include the app's data in that backup. That is handled by Apple and controlled by your device settings, not by us.
Daily reminders are optional and local. If you switch on a daily reminder, the app asks iOS for permission to show notifications. The reminder is scheduled on your device by iOS. There is no push notification server, and no information about your reminder leaves your device. You can turn reminders off at any time in the app or in the iOS Settings app.
Apple. If you download the app from the App Store, Apple handles the download under Apple's own privacy policy. Apple may give us aggregated statistics, such as the number of downloads, and crash reports if you chose to share diagnostics with developers. These do not identify you.
Purchases
Paid access. Emberwise is a paid app: a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. You pay with your Apple ID, and Apple handles the payment, renewals and refunds under Apple's own privacy policy. We never see your card, your payment details, your name or your Apple ID.
RevenueCat. To unlock the app, check whether your access is active and restore purchases, the app uses RevenueCat, Inc. as a processor on our behalf. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID that the app creates (it is not linked to your name or email address, which we do not have), your purchase records (which product, when, whether it is active, and Apple's receipt or transaction identifier) and technical information such as device type, operating system and app version, plus the IP address that any internet request carries. RevenueCat uses this only to provide the service for us, not for advertising. It stores the data on servers in the United States; transfers outside the EU or EEA are covered by the safeguards RevenueCat offers, for example Standard Contractual Clauses. The legal basis is the performance of the contract you enter into when you buy (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). You can read RevenueCat's own policy here: revenuecat.com/privacy
Lifetime launch offer. The lifetime purchase is a launch offer that is available for a limited time. It is handled like every other purchase: Apple takes the payment and RevenueCat manages your access, as described above. Our own server receives and stores nothing about lifetime purchases.
Nothing else. Apart from the purchase service (Apple and RevenueCat), the app sends nothing to anyone. It contains no advertising or analytics software, and you are not tracked.
The Emberwise website and the waitlist
What we store. If you enter your email address in the waitlist form, we store:
- your email address,
- the language of the page you used (English, German, Spanish or French),
- the date and time you signed up, and the version of the consent text you saw next to the form,
- a short source tag (for example "landing", which form you used),
- your status (subscribed or unsubscribed), and
- a random code that makes your personal unsubscribe link work.
We store nothing else about you. We do not store your IP address or browser details in our database.
What we use it for. We use your email address for one purpose: to send you one email when Emberwise launches. We do not sell it, share it for advertising, or combine it with other data.
Legal basis. You give us your email address voluntarily and you agree to this use by submitting the form (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw that consent at any time.
How long we keep it. We keep the waitlist until the launch email has been sent, plus 30 days. Then we delete the whole list. Deleting an entry earlier is easy: use the unsubscribe link in any email from us, or write to us (see Contact). If you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you at once; the entry stays marked as unsubscribed only so that you are not emailed by mistake, and it is deleted with the rest of the list. If you ask us to delete your entry, we delete it completely. Signing up again with an address that has unsubscribed does not add it back; if you want back on the list, write to us (see Contact).
Who processes it for us.
- Vercel Inc. hosts the website and runs the waitlist function.
- Neon, Inc. runs the database that holds the list. The data is stored in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Resend, Inc. sends the launch email for us. It receives your email address and the content of that one email.
Vercel and Resend are based in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the EU or EEA, it is covered by the safeguards those providers offer, for example Standard Contractual Clauses. We do not give your data to anyone else.
The launch email. It contains a working unsubscribe link and supports one-click unsubscribe in your mail app. It contains no tracking pixels and no tracked links.
Server logs. Vercel, our hosting provider, processes technical request data such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. Vercel uses it to deliver the site and keep it secure, and keeps it for a short period under Vercel's own policies. We use your IP address only briefly, in server memory, to limit abuse of the waitlist form (for example, repeated submissions). It is not saved in our database.
Cookies and local storage. The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking pixels. It loads no third-party fonts, scripts or content. If you choose a language with the language links at the bottom of a page, your browser remembers that choice in its local storage so the site opens in that language next time. It stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can clear it in your browser settings.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- tell you whether we hold your email address and give you a copy,
- correct it,
- delete it,
- restrict or stop our use of it, or
- hand it to you in a portable format.
You can also withdraw your consent at any time. To use any of these rights, write to us (see Contact) or use the unsubscribe link. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
In the app we hold no name or email address for you, so there is little for us to look up there. The records about your purchases are kept by Apple and by RevenueCat, who answer requests about them under their own policies; write to us (see Contact) if you need help with that. Deleting the app from your device removes its data from that device.
Children
The app has no account and does not ask anyone, including children, for personal details. Buying needs an Apple ID, and Apple's rules for children and family accounts apply. The website waitlist is meant for people aged 16 and over. If you are a parent and find your child's email address on our list, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, for example when another service is added, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date before the change takes effect.
